For most of my life I have been guilty of chronic procrastination. It did not matter if it was something I really wanted to do or something that I hated doing but knew I had to. Unless it was TOTALLY FUN and gave me some form of instant gratification I would just automatically put everything important or difficult off until the last possible minute

At the end of each day my list doubled in size and it seemed like the only things I got done were the things that were either totally FUN or were mostly unimportant things aka "busy work"
Whatever it was, I always managed to find a way to procrastinate and I always paid the price.
Then in early 2011 I got fed up! And I hired a man who is a time management and productivity coach. He is also a business person, and he taught me that procrastination is a learned behavior which can be unlearned,
and that there are what he calls DOING HABITS AND NOT DOING HABITS and that procrastinators are in the habit of NOT DOING THINGS. Then he shared with me a technique to stop procrastination that seemed to work fairly well so that I got into the habit of DOING instead of NOT DOING. It was better then most stop procrastinating and time management programs but it was still not as effective as I needed it to be. I think that it worked more for him because he is also an Ex U.S. Marine and a hard nosed, "type A person" and I am not. He has secretaries that he can delegate to and he also does not have a constant river of ideas coming to him 24/7 the way that I do. Plus because another thing that he simply does not understand is that most people are in the habit of "not doing" due to something that I will share with you in a moment.
However, based on the skills that he taught me, I had a good head start and I spent a lot of time thinking about how to really "tweak" his "stop procrastinating" and time management techniques and take it to the next level and make it REALLY WORK for a chronic procrastinator like me. So I spent a lot of time working on this and finally I figured out that the challenge with all of the stop procrastinating programs and time management programs is that they are based on organization and prioritizing and delegating tasks and making lists and basically following your list and doing the hardest thing first, but they never address the emotional energy, or fear behind certain activities.
This is the REAL reason for the procrastination (also known as avoidance behavior). These normal time management programs don’t get you to release or reduce or eliminate any sort of fear or anxiety or emotion that is associated with whatever activity that you are supposed to do. Emotions such as fear of failure, rejection, doing it wrong, ridicule, money or some sort of painful thoughts and feelings associated with the activity. These feelings may be at the conscious or subconscious level. But whatever it is, this is what is literally paralyzing you and forcing you to avoid getting certain things done.
The programs also don’t get you to recondition your mind to reassociate those feelings with PLEASURE so that you not only actually WANT to get all of those things done but so that you automatically ACTUALLY TAKE ACTION AND PLOW THROUGH THEM.
